The Quebec Nordiques are hockey royalty in La Belle Province. From their WHA origins in 1972 to their fierce 'Battle of Quebec' rivalry with the Montreal Canadiens — the most culturally charged rivalry in hockey history — the Nordiques were Quebec City's pride and joy. The Colisee was deafening, the fleur-de-lis jersey was iconic, and stars like Peter Stastny, Michel Goulet, Mats Sundin, and a young Joe Sakic made the Nordiques one of hockey's most exciting teams. When they left for Colorado in 1995, it broke a city's heart — and Quebec has been fighting to get an NHL team back ever since.
